$15,000 Â K-9 SCHOLARSHIP
2019 K-9 Scholarship Winner
Officer Kevin Hess and Officer Brian Shaw were close friends.  They shared common interests in sports and police work.  They were both also fiercely competitive at Fantasy Football.  When Kevin heard that our foundation was going to be giving the New Kensington Police Department a K-9 Scholarship, Kevin showed great interest in the program and was chosen by NKPD to be Deuce's handler. Kevin went through a rigorous, six-week training with Deuce at Shallow Creek Kennels.  On August 5th, 2019 Deuce was sworn in as Badge #29K in honor of Brian, whose badge number was #29.  Deuce also received his name from a nickname that Brian received when he was younger.  Brian always wore the number two when playing soccer, hence the nickname "Deuce."  We would like to wish Officer Hess and K-9 Deuce the best of luck and a safe career.

2020 K-9 SCHOLARSHIP WINNER
Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department
Chief Mike Naviglia and Officer Brian Shaw worked together at the Springdale Township Police Department just before Officer Brian Shaw had accepted a full time position with the New Kensington Police Department. Recently, Chief Naviglia's department absorbed patrol responsibilities for neighboring Cheswick Borough forming the Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department. Chief Naviglia has been a K-9 handler for several years. K-9 Carr is Chief Naviglia's third police K-9. We wish Chief Naviglia and K-9 Carr a safe career together.

Officer Aaron Rodgers and K-9 Buc are the newest addition to the police force for the Lower Burrell Police Department. With recent retirement of Sgt. We would like to wish Officer Rodgers and K-9 Buc a safe career together.
